Conrad was a ". . . low, heavey-set man of florid complexion; he had 'sandy' hair and merry blue eyes." In 1814, he moved to what is now Jackson Co. and stated the salt works on the north side of the Big Muddy River. He was one of the founders of Jackson Co.

"William R. Will, 92, Venice, Fla., died Sept. 27, 1993. Born Sept. 7, 1901 in Somerset County. He moved to the Venice, Fla., area 26 years ago, from Berlin, Pa. He had retired in 1959 from the Pennsylvania Department of Highways in Somerset County. Following that he was in the road contracting business in Pennsylvania. Upon moving to Venice along with his wife and other family members, he owned and operated 40 Winks Motel and the Venice Motel. He was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son, William K., of Venice; one brother Everett of Somerset; three grandchildren, Robert of Venice, Sue Lowery of Venice and Tammy Beebe of Nokomis, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday at the Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel. Burial will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood. The family requests memorial donations be made to Venice Presbyterian Church, 111 Firenze East, Venice, Fla. 34285."

Will, Somerset; also a number of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by one sister, Nellie B. Will. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford. A World War I veteran. Member of Everett Lodge 524, F.&A.M., Royal Arch Chapter, Huntingdon Commandry, Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, and Bedford County Shrine Club, Everett American Legion, Bedford Rotary Club since 1947, and Everett and Bedford sportsmen's clubs. "Milton D. Walker, 73, 128 E. Race Street, Somerset, died May 26, 1978, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born May 16, 1905, in Shanksville, he was a son of the late Willam and Nora (Rayman) Walker. Preceded in death by a brother, John, and one sister, Sadie Ringler. Survived by his wife, the former Viola B. Albright; one son, Richard C., Taylor, Mich.; three grandsons and five step-grandchildren. His passing ends a marriage union of 47 years. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Friends will be received after 12 noon Sunday in the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Hoffman officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park."

Preceded in death by his wife, the former Mae Stutzman. Survived by the following children: Lois of Pittsburgh; Thomas of Albertville, Ala.; Donald of San Mateo, Cal.; and four grandchildren. Brother of Blair of Chambersburg. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Stonycreek Valley American Legion. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Charles R. Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Herbert G. Hohman officiating. Interment, Walker Cemetery, Shanksville."
