"Mast. Bishop Emanuel A. Mast, son of Adam and Sarah Mast, was born in Somerset Co., Pa., Sept. 16, 1856; died at his home near Kokomo, Ind., July 26, 1932; aged 75 y. 10 m. 10 d. His death was attributed to cancer of the stomach. When a young man, he came to Howard Co., Ind., and resided here since. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mast on Oct. 14, 1877, and they lived happily together for ten years, when death called her home. During their married life, they cared for a foster son (Ollie Carr), and a foster daughter (Delilah Nancy Moore). They preceded him in death. On Dec. 17, 1891, he was united in marriage to Clara (Troyer) Schrock. To this union were born 5 children. Two daughters preceded him in death, one in infancy, and the other (Mrs. Nettie Miller) a few years ago. Those surviving are, 1 son (Elijah of Howard Co., Ind.) and 2 daughters (Mrs. Mabel Baker near Ligonier, Ind., and Pearl who resides at home). In the home also were reared one step-son (Allen B. Schrock), one foster daughter (Saloma Blosser), and one foster son (Orville Snyder). There are also 3 brothers (Samuel Mast living adjoining the home Abe near Topeka, Ind., and Adam of Shipshewana, Ind.), and 1 sister (Mrs. Eve Troyer of La Grange, Ind.). There are also 11 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. At the age of 20 years, he was converted and united with the Mennonite Church. Three years later he was ordained to the ministry and later to the office of bishop in which capacity he served faithfully for 43 years. In his decease, the home has lost a loving husband and father, the community a kind, helpful, and respected neighbor, and the Church a faithful servant; but our loss is his gain. Funeral services were conducted at the home and church on Aug. 30, 1932, by Bishops D. A. Yoder and Jacob K. Bixler. Texts, II Cor. 5: 9-11; Acts 20: 24. Burial in the Mast Cemetery near his home."

"Maust. Franklin B. Maust was born at Meyersdale, Pa., Jan. 11, 1861; died at his home north of Nappanee, Ind., June 23, 1932; aged 71 y. 5 m. 14 d. He came to Elkhart Co., Ind., at the age of 21, and was engaged in working on the farm. He was united in marriage to Catharine Mishler of Howard Co., Ind., where he lived for a few years, then he moved to Arkansas, where he stayed several years, until he moved back to Elkhart, where he lived in the vicinity of Nappanee until his death. His wife died Dec. 21, 1912, and on Feb. 19, 1914, he was united in marriage to Minnie Dennison who survives him. He also is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters of his first wife (Douglas and Edward Maust of Goshen, Ind.; Fred of Nappanee; Mrs. Bessie Cliff of Elkhart, and Mrs. Pearl Newcomer of Goshen), 2 brothers (Bernard and Nelson of Nappanee), 2 sisters (Mrs. John Weber of Dunlap, Ind., and Mrs. Chris Bender of Nappanee), 3 step-children (Levi Dennison, Mrs. Milton Stump, and Geo. Dennison), and 12 grandchildren also survive. He gave his heart to God when in young manhood and united with the Mennonite Church where he served faithfully until death. He was much interested in Christian service, and was active as a teacher and Sunday school sup't. for a number of years. On April 12, 1905, he was ordained deacon in the North Main St. Congregation, and served in this office until death. In his decease the home has lost a loving father, one that was especially concerned about his family; the community, a kind and helpful neighbor; and the Church, a faithful servant. May our loss be his gain. Funeral services were held at the North Main St. Church, Nappanee, on Sunday afternoon, June 26, in charge of D.D. Troyer and H. F. North. Burial in the South Union Cemetery."

On the last day of her life in the morning she was, in accordance with her request, annointed with oil in the name of the Lord and seven hours later she fell asleep in peace with a bright hope of meeting her Redeemer in glory. She leaves father, mother, husband, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 son and 3 daughters to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held Oct. 31 in Nappanee meeting house, of which congregation she was a member. Interment at the South Union cemetery. The funeral was largely attended. Services conducted by Jonas Loucks and David Burkholder. Text, Rom. 8:28. The deeply bereaved family has the sympathies of the friends and neighbors."

"MAST. Near Plevna, Howard Co., Ind., of consumption, David S. Mast. He was born May 8th, 1823, and died Sept. 30th, 1891, aged 68 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was married to Nancy Livengood Oct. 19th, 1851, and lived in matrimony 39 years, 11 months and 11 days. He was a member of the Amish Mennonite church. He was the father of 16 children of whom 13 survive him. He was very much concerned about his soul's salvation. During his sufferings, he admonished others that were living too cold and unconcerned in the way of serving their Lord and Master. A few days before his departure he called for the ministers and his children to observe the communion with him, which was done at the house of his daughter where he and wife stayed. The day before he died they thought that he was dying, and word was sent to his children to come as soon as possible. Bro. N. Sproal came there at the same time. Bro. Mast however revived again, and he then asked Bro. Sproal whether his life would not soon be ended, "for," he said, "I want to go home to Jesus." O, that every one of us may learn a lesson of his departure. Funeral services were held Oct. 1st, in the Amish Mennonite church by N. Sproal in German from Psalm 77: 1 4, and in English by J. S. Horner. He was buried in the Mast graveyard. He leaves a wife and 13 children to mourn their loss, but not to mourn as those who have no hope. Bro. Mast will be missed by many."

"MAUST.- In Somerset Co., Pa., August 22nd, of nervous spasms Harvey, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Maust, aged 7 years, 1 month and 19 days. He was sick about 48 hours. While he was sick and during the last night he sang "Jesus, lover of my soul, Let me to thy bosom fly." He did not talk, even when asked a question, but kept singing just as clearly as though he was well. He frequently sang from the hymn, "Land of rest," and often told his parents something would happen soon. He was a weakly, yet a pleasant child, and we need not mourn his early departure, for we know that Jesus took him to a better home."
