"Thelma K. Long, 81, Beaver Dam Road, Friedens, died May 17, 2004, at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Shanksville, daughter of Alvin and Susan (Meyers) Knepper. Preceded in death by parents, daughter Victoria, sisters Gladys Darr and Leora Saylor-Walker; and brothers Meyers and Emerson Knepper. Survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Chester, and these children: Carol, married to Kerry Shoaf, Grapeville; Mary, married to James Manfredo, Pittsburgh; Ginny, Friedens; the Rev. Joseph, married to the former Ellie Sheesley, Leesport; Rachel, married to Keith Brant, Acme; and Becky, Pittsburgh. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. A 1941 graduate of Shanksville High School. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member and was active with the Lutheran Church Women and the Synod Board. Member and past president of the 3rd Society of Farm Women, and past president of the Somerset Co. Farm Women. Former co-chairperson of the Somerset Food Pantry and past member of the Stoystown Lioness Club. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from noon until service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Friedens Lutheran Church. The Rev. Edward V. DeVore officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Friedens Lutheran Church Community Ministry Fund, Friedens, Pa. 15541."
